Avatar Gameplay and Nova

Hi, folks! It has been a while.

I was away due to Real Life. I may describe the things me and my family went through in a future post. Will see.

Today I want to write some ideas regarding Avatar Gameplay in EVE. You know, the pretty thing that CCP started to implement several years ago and then put to a halt due to some serious stir in the cluster, people were angry and so on, and so on, you know the story. Well, the events back then, actually determined the direction of EVE development for years to come. And since our devs are very serious about not making the same mistake again, it looks like we’re gonna wait a long time before we see something as cool as Avatar Gameplay in EVE… Or so it seems... That makes me sad.

I found a small forum post from years ago, that describes some ideas and a prototype our devs have been working on. It is from 2012, so don’t get too excited, their priorities have changed now, but it is worth a read, just to see what has been going on back then and to see the players response to it.

I was sitting in my Captain's Quarters, looking at the door, walking around in the small place with no windows. Years of waiting. Well... maybe I should focus my activities elsewhere in the game. But all the cool Roleplay options that we would have with Avatar Gameplay, the level of immersion that we would have as players… I think it is something well worth the developers time. And I do feel that our awesome Community should support the idea of Avatar Gameplay and be passionate about it, just as passionate as it is with the rest of the game. Yes, it will be different, yes some of us don’t like dramatic changes, but it is really a completely natural step in EVE’s evolution. And when it is implemented, it will fit with the rest of the game perfectly.

But when?

I have an idea. Let’s look at Project Nova, which is currently a working title for a project in development. The FPS part of EVE. Well, I think it is safe to say that the shooter experience in New Eden is totally Avatar Gameplay. Sooo, it would be nice to implement the Incarna features and improve them, adding them to Project Nova! Yes! I mean, this is completely natural - initially Nova will be a separate game, so all the spaceship experience will have the developers attention, just as it has it now, while Nova devs will be busy with the shooter.

BB 75 Follow Up - More Nova

Here again to share some more ideas for Project Nova.

In my previous post I contributed to the monthly EVE Blog Banter which was about Project Nova and what exactly do we need to make it successful. I will use this space for a continuing iteration on what I already wrote, because I am really excited for this. I love the idea of an FPS set in the EVE universe and will go above and beyond to deliver some good ideas that may help make it a glorious game.

BB 75: What Does Project Nova Need to be Successful?

Welcome to the continuing monthly EVE Blog Banters and our 75th edition! For more details about what the blog banters are please visit the Blog Banter page.

At Fanfest CCP showcased their current iteration of the FPS set in the Eve Universe. Following on from DUST514 and Project Legion, Project Nova is shaping up to be a solid FPS with CCP taking the decision to get the game mechanics right first. However with so many FPS out there what will Nova need in order to stand out from a very large crowd and be successful? What are the opportunities and perhaps more importantly, the dangers for CCP? How can Nova compete against CoD, Battlefront and Titanfall to name a few?

Hello, folks!

Just a few weeks ago, at the EVE Fanfest 2016, there was an announcement about Project Nova - the FPS experience set in the EVE universe. We had a sneak peek on how it looks at this particular point of development and we had some really encouraging words from our devs, who are hard at work to make this project a full fledged game.

Actually our devs have made their claim long ago when they stated that: long term they aim to provide an ultimate Sci-Fi experience, one which extends from the ground all the way up into space and on every vehicle in between. That is pretty much enough for me and I have no doubts that the experiences that we share in the world of EVE will evolve further with all this new gameplay added. We are getting there. And we will get there sooner if we just keep contributing to this the best way we can. We are in this together.

And just in the spirit of contribution I want to share some of my ideas, in no particular order, answering the question: What Does Project Nova Need to be Successful?

Let’s get started.

Multicapsule Ships - Advancing

It is time for another round on Multicapsule Ships! Yay!

I gotta apologize for the huge delay on this topic. Last post about Multicapsule Ships has been in 2014! Oh dear... I have been busy with Real Life and could not find the time to further develop this concept. But now I have more time and energy so I will do some updates.

First of all, EVE online turned 13 yesterday! What a great time to celebrate! Happy Birthday EVE! And Happy Capsuleer Day!

I am advancing in my piloting skills and now I can fly battleships. It is some unique experience. They are gracefully slow, powerful boats, able to withstand huge amounts of damage, while being more than capable to also deal great punishment to their targets. Flying a battleship makes me feel tough and significant. In the meantime I realized that the current concept of Multicapsule Ships being able to house frigates and destroyers, will actually not appeal to many pilots out there. They will need to fly larger and more capable multicapsule crew ships.

No matter how many bonuses a Multicapsule Ship will provide to their frigates, bombers and destroyers, there will always be the need for more damage power and more resilience for the smaller ships. That doesn’t mean that the current concept is wrong, but a lot more variety should be added here, because there will be all kinds of fleets, Multicapsule Ship crews and opportunist pilots that will have all kinds of different ideas and ways to approach their goals in the dangerous environments that they will operate in.

BB 73 - Expanding EVE

Welcome to the continuing monthly EVE Blog Banters and our 73rd edition! For more details about what the blog banters are please visit the Blog Banter page.

Blog Banter 73 - The Other Eve Game?
So soon(tm) we will have Eve Online, Valkyrie, Gunjack and the as yet untitled FPS to replace DUST 514/Project Legion. Are we missing anything else? Are then any other games CCP should be looking into? Colony building simulators in the style of Sim City or Rimworld. Should it be on a grander scale link Civilisation or Stronghold Kingdoms. How about RTS games ala Command and Conquer? Survival games such as Rust? Planet based combat like World of Tanks? Would you like to see other game types expanding the Eve Universe or should CCP stick to what it knows?

Good question asked here. Well let’s see…

First of all I want to mention one thing that should be noted. I keep mentioning it, but I guess it is for the good. The long term goal of CCP is that they are striving to make the ultimate Sci-Fi experience for us, one in which the experience itself extends from the ground, all the way up into Space and on every vehicle in between. That is a bold claim. And it is a great challenge.

Capsuleers - Builders of Worlds

It is time to look to the future. The future of our interstellar realm lies closely with us. Closer than some of us think. It is clear that given the tools that CCP has created for us, we, capsuleers create content and it is really good. We even create our own tools that we use to create more content. It is awesome that we are able to do so. Keeping these things in mind, let’s look at some possibilities that may make our lives in New Eden even more exciting.

Starting off with Planetary Interactions combined with Avatar Gameplay

One day we will be able to land on planets and do a lot of stuff down there. Imagine that for a moment. Have you ever wanted to roam the Jungles of Intaki Prime? Or land on a Lava planet? Explore an Icy world looking for some hidden relics? Or see the Amarrian city of Dam-Torsat? See the Gallentean Crystal Boulevard in Caille? There are countless locations to be visited. I personally prefer wild areas but then again it is good to come back to the comfort of civilization from time to time.

Tough Decisions - Update

In my previous post I described an uneasy situation in my life with a difficult choice that I had to make. I was sure that I got two options - to work a well paid full time job that leaves me no time for my artistic passions, or to quit the job and start learning drawing and painting. Time for a little update on that.

It appeared that I have more options than I first thought. A few days ago I almost got fired, because my boss was not satisfied with the work I did. So contract is cancelled, but they offered me a freelance job from home. I will basically do the same things that I did at the office, but they will pay me per article, which means the salary size will vary depending on the job that I have done through the month. The good thing is that I will work from home and will definitely have the space and time to do my art. Will see how it goes. If I still don’t have enough time to draw then I will eventually go back to my previous intention to quit the job, but if I manage to do some drawing exercises, then  I guess I will keep this job. The point here is to take my time and choose wisely.

At this point I will keep myself away from rushed decisions, because in a situation like this I have to look around and see what other options I have. And there is definitely a better solution in this situation. Why having to choose between good income and art exercises when you can have both? I’m glad things happen this way, thanks God, there are good options. I must also show respect to these people giving me the chance to work with young and nice folks and get nice income, because, you know, this is still something and should be appreciated. And I have to say that it is a good thing to be thankful for what you already have, because that is the way to open the gate tor other good things to come into your life. I put myself in this situation and there is no one else to blame, but me. And I gotta use what I have and get things better.

I want to thank you all for your support. Thank you for being with me in this. I got contacted by people from the EVE community and they were happy to give me some encouraging words and advice. This made me very happy, you guys are the best.
