BB 75 Follow Up - More Nova

Here again to share some more ideas for Project Nova.

In my previous post I contributed to the monthly EVE Blog Banter which was about Project Nova and what exactly do we need to make it successful. I will use this space for a continuing iteration on what I already wrote, because I am really excited for this. I love the idea of an FPS set in the EVE universe and will go above and beyond to deliver some good ideas that may help make it a glorious game.

BB 75: What Does Project Nova Need to be Successful?

At Fanfest CCP showcased their current iteration of the FPS set in the Eve Universe. Following on from DUST514 and Project Legion, Project Nova is shaping up to be a solid FPS with CCP taking the decision to get the game mechanics right first. However with so many FPS out there what will Nova need in order to stand out from a very large crowd and be successful? What are the opportunities and perhaps more importantly, the dangers for CCP? How can Nova compete against CoD, Battlefront and Titanfall to name a few?


Hello, folks!


Just a few weeks ago, at the EVE Fanfest 2016, there was an announcement about Project Nova - the FPS experience set in the EVE universe. We had a sneak peek on how it looks at this particular point of development and we had some really encouraging words from our devs, who are hard at work to make this project a full fledged game.



Actually our devs have made their claim long ago when they stated that: long term they aim to provide an ultimate Sci-Fi experience, one which extends from the ground all the way up into space and on every vehicle in between. That is pretty much enough for me and I have no doubts that the experiences that we share in the world of EVE will evolve further with all this new gameplay added. We are getting there. And we will get there sooner if we just keep contributing to this the best way we can. We are in this together.

And just in the spirit of contribution I want to share some of my ideas, in no particular order, answering the question: What Does Project Nova Need to be Successful?

Multicapsule Ships - Advancing

It is time for another round on Multicapsule Ships! Yay!

I gotta apologize for the huge delay on this topic. Last post about Multicapsule Ships has been in 2014! Oh dear... I have been busy with Real Life and could not find the time to further develop this concept. But now I have more time and energy so I will do some updates.




First of all, EVE online turned 13 yesterday! What a great time to celebrate! Happy Birthday EVE! And Happy Capsuleer Day!


I am advancing in my piloting skills and now I can fly battleships. It is some unique experience. They are gracefully slow, powerful boats, able to withstand huge amounts of damage, while being more than capable to also deal great punishment to their targets. Flying a battleship makes me feel tough and significant. In the meantime I realized that the current concept of Multicapsule Ships being able to house frigates and destroyers, will actually not appeal to many pilots out there. They will need to fly larger and more capable multicapsule crew ships.

No matter how many bonuses a Multicapsule Ship will provide to their frigates, bombers and destroyers, there will always be the need for more damage power and more resilience for the smaller ships. That doesn’t mean that the current concept is wrong, but a lot more variety should be added here, because there will be all kinds of fleets, Multicapsule Ship crews and opportunist pilots that will have all kinds of different ideas and ways to approach their goals in the dangerous environments that they will operate in.

BB 73 - Expanding EVE

Blog Banter 73 - The Other Eve Game?  
So soon(tm) we will have Eve Online, Valkyrie, Gunjack and the as yet untitled FPS to replace DUST 514/Project Legion. Are we missing anything else? Are then any other games CCP should be looking into? Colony building simulators in the style of Sim City or Rimworld. Should it be on a grander scale link Civilisation or Stronghold Kingdoms. How about RTS games ala Command and Conquer? Survival games such as Rust? Planet based combat like World of Tanks? Would you like to see other game types expanding the Eve Universe or should CCP stick to what it knows?


Good question asked here. Well let’s see…


First of all I want to mention one thing that should be noted. I keep mentioning it, but I guess it is for the good. The long term goal of CCP is that they are striving to make the ultimate Sci-Fi experience for us, one in which the experience itself extends from the ground, all the way up into Space and on every vehicle in between. That is a bold claim. And it is a great challenge.
